For the past ten years, Joanes has been involved in the creation of short and feature films, television projects and special events. He has worked in the capacity of producer, director, editor and developer – among other roles.
Joanes’ passion for film and new media spans close to 20 years. At the age of 14, his first internship was at the Apollo Theatre with renowned producer Voza Rivers of the hit Broadway show “Sarafina” and “Township Fever.” After college, Joanes continued honing his skills by interning for production companies such as Emerging Pictures and by developing, producing and co-directing independent projects such as the Safe Sex PSA “Which Bag” and the Pepsi Spec Commercial “Simply Creative.”
In 2004, Joanes worked as a creative assistant at Bad Boy Films (BBF). There, he assisted in the development and production of multiple projects including MTV’s “Diddy Runs the City,” the HBO special “The Bad Boys of Comedy,” the popular “Vote or Die” campaign and a special behind the scenes video for rap duo EightBall and MJG for their gold-certified album “Living Legends.”
While balancing work in corporate finance, Joanes became a freelancer in 2006. He worked as a production coordinator for the Lionsgate distributed feature “El Vacilon: The Movie” starring popular Latino disc jockey’s Luis Jimenez and Moon Shadow. He produced a New York City screening of Columbia Tristar’s “The Pursuit of Happyness” to honor real-life hero Chris Gardner at the FIAF. Joanes also was an associate producer of the short film, “The Engagement Party” distributed by Ryko/Blockbuster. In 2007, he served as executive producer of the award winning project, “Lifted” which received a special premiere at George Lucas’ Skywalk Sound and a standing room-only premiere at the Schomberg Center in Harlem. He also produced and directed “the Making of Documentary” for “Lifted.”
Joanes fully expanded into directing and editing in 2008. Over the past four years he has produced, directed and edited projects for Demand Media and About.com. In 2012, he extended his services to small businesses and has been instrumental in helping entrepreneurs promote their message through integrated branding of video, web, and social media.
Currently, Joanes is editing the documentary “Finding The Prospers,” which he has spent five years directing and producing. He is also developing several television, web and mobile projects slated for production in 2014.
